HAGERSTOWN, MD- After a busy work session the Hagerstown city council voted three to two to sell the former Army Reserve property to Washington County.
The price tag on it was $625,000.
The county plans to pay for the building with a federal grant that expires by the end of the year.
While some city council members think it would benefit the city to have the senior center, others needed reassurance.
"I want to make sure that this senior center idea is really going to become a senior center and not sell the property and realize after the fact that the property ends up being used for some other use," says Kristin Aleshire, Hagerstown council member.
The county will pay to upgrade the building and make sure it complies with city zoning regulations.
