ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD - Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a Flinstone man.

Police say hunters discovered the remains of Lewis Joy, 37, Saturday morning. They say he appeared to have internal injuries, but how he died isn't clear.

Investigators say Joy's body was found about half a mile back in the woods off of Cresap Mill Road in Oldtown. A sweatshirt-tied between two trees was found roughly 30 feet above the body.

Police say it's possible Joy fell from the tree. They say whether it was intentional or not, hasn't been determined.

Joy was reported missing on October 22, 2012, and the truck he was driving was found abandoned several feet away at a gun club. Police say a search was organized, but he wasn't found.

Officials believe he died close to the time he went missing. Joy had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Police say he told a friend that he wouldn't go back to jail.

"We're gonna act like this case is a homicide," says Lieutenant Michael Fluharty with the Maryland State Police in Cumberland. "We treat every suspicious death as a homicide and rule out everything we possibly can and try not to make any assumptions before the evidence comes in."
