FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick County Department of Aging wants to make sure caregivers have the tools they need to help a loved one.

"I think that more than ever, caregivers make up a significant portion of the population today, whether someone has been a caregiver, whether someone currently is caregiving, or it's in someone's future," said Kathryn Schey, MAP coordinator.

The department held a workshop Thursday morning at the Frederick Senior Center.

"Knowing what your resources are, on a county level particularly, is extremely important whenever you're in the caregiving journey, whether you're caring from a distance or caring locally or caring in your own home," Schey said.

Schey says they want people who care for an older adult or child to know about the resources in Frederick and Washington Counties. Some of those include monthly caregiver meetings, assistance, information, and education.

Much of the information is on the Frederick County Department of Aging's website.

Those with the department say caregivers should try and follow a routine and make sure they take time to take care of themselves.
