CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Eight board members voted in an amended dress code for the Chambersburg Area School District.
"I predict it would be even more confusing when the next school year rolls around," says one parent Kelly Kline, "I question when we as parents will actually be given a copy of it."
That means starting next school year, students must follow new guidelines for what to wear.
Jeans are in as long as there are no holes and crew necks are OK too. However, hoodies can only be worn to and from school and during recess.
The amended dress code was passed 8-1 despite a room full of opposing parents.
"She wears this to church," says a parent holding up an outfit for her 5-year-old daughter. She says, "Perfectly acceptable, I think you'd say. However this is not a crew neck shirt. She's not wearing this to school."
"The new modified policy takes all the parent's guardians rights away and gives the Board total control of what their children are to wear to school," another parent said at the School Board meeting.
The amendments made at the Wednesday night School Board meeting say belts aren't required, but encouraged.
Some modifications will be made at the Elementary School level. For the first year, logos on apparel may only be two inches in size and will be eliminated starting the year after.
"I'm disappointed I feel like a lot of the community was not in support of it," says Kline. "I feel like it's been changed so much."
Board members also decided to add more parents to a dress code committee.

I wish Washington County Schools would do this! Some of the clothing kids are wearing these days is appalling.
