Absentee Application Deadline Extended

FRANKLIN COUNTY, PA- Sandy has made a mess out of absentee voting in Pennsylvania and officials are scrambling around trying to clean it up.

"Because of the weather closures on Monday and Tuesday there was an executive order issued from the Governor Tom Corbett," says Jennie Aines, Chief Registrar in Franklin County. "We needed to extend the deadline for absentee application one day for each day we were closed."

If you want to make your vote count this election all you have to do is fill out your ballot and bring it to the voter registration office by the new required deadline.

"As a result the state extended the absentee deadline until Thursday at 5pm," says Aines.

The two day extension has kept the voter registration office busy with residents picking up applications while others were casting their ballot before it is too late.

"I was able to vote otherwise I didn't know until today that I wasn't going to be here," says Miriam Alexis, an absentee voter. "I just saw it in the paper and my daughter told me to come down here."

"I have a last minute meeting that came up in Ohio and I have to be out of town next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday," says Joseph Tice, an absentee voter. "I didn't know if I was going to have time to do this so the extension really helped me."

The extension also applies for anyone who needs to pick up an absentee ballot application or drop off a ballot for someone else.

"I'm just picking up an application for an absentee ballot for my father-in-law," says Matthew Bryant.

"I dropped off the absentee ballot for my mother today," says Jerry Warnement.

It is still being discussed whether the deadline to return the voted absentee ballot will be extended.

The deadline to return a voted absentee ballot is Friday, November 2nd.
