Md. Special Olympic Athletes Compete in Frederick Tournament

FREDERICK, MD - Special Olympic athletes from from around Maryland were in Frederick Tuesday for the Unified Tennis Tournament.
About 400 athletes, 50 coaches, and 100 volunteers brought out their tennis rackets at four different locations throughout Frederick. The students were from Garrett, Allegany, Washington, and Frederick Counties, in addition to Baltimore City.
The tournament paired up kids with disabilities with non-disabled students.
The athletes who competed say it allows them to have fun with their friends while getting great exercise at the same time.
"It feels good with the tournament that I get to play against the other schools from other states, and we get to come out here and compete against each other and have fun," said Jessica Young, a senior at South Hagerstown High School.
This is the third year for the tournament. Organizers plan to bring it back again next October during Disability History and Awareness Month.
