Mineral County School Launches Physical Fitness Program

Updated: October 22, 2012
NEW CREEK, WV- According to health experts, developing upper body strength should start at an early age.

New Creek primary school in Mineral County is launching a physical fitness program to get its students in shape.

The program is a part of Project Fit America and New Creek primary is the first school in the West Virginia to undertake the program, which stresses the importance of staying fit.

The school received new equipment including a pole climb and monkey bars for the students.

"It really gets them excited about physical fitness and activities that will cause them to become stronger.   They are able to do it here and they understand how to use the equipment.  It's not regular playground equipment," says Desiree Smith, the Physical Education Instructor at New Creek primary school.

The $20,000 worth of equipment was funded in part by the Western Maryland Health System.
