HAGERSTOWN, MD - Hundreds of volunteers traveled all over Washington County to help out at various project sites as part of the United Way's Day of Caring.

"It's a huge fulfillment for us to give back to the community," volunteer Amanda Boyer-Everett said.  "It's where we live and work. And the children of this community are the next generation of leaders in this community. So it's very fulfilling and important for us to do that."

The kids at Head Start were thrilled when volunteers joined them in all kinds of fun. Together they danced, juggled neon scarves, and ran around the playground.

The United Way invested in Head Start's summer learning initiatives, according to Jenny Fleming with the United Way.  "Today they're helping them have a field day to use some of the activities in the curriculum," Fleming said.

This year's United Way Day of Caring drew in a record 930 volunteers.  They helped at 73 sites around Washington County.
