CHARLES TOWN, WV - Jefferson County locals are discovering hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars in their family treasures on Saturday at the Annual Antiques Appraisal Fair.

Residents have brought in items from jewelry and Civil War documents to guns, that are are examined by a certified appraiser. The annual event fund-raises for the Jefferson County Museum: a diverse display of delicate items, including a handwritten letter from George Washington to his cousin.

"It's interesting to see people's treasures. I'm particularly interested in documents related to the area, we've seen a couple that are from people who were prominent in the 1800's. It's just a delight to see people proud of their belongings," says Jane Rissler, Curator for the Jefferson County Museum.

Last year's Appraisal Fair brought in about $1,000, which goes directly into funding the Jefferson County Museum.
