Home Building Put on Hold After Habitat for Humanity Burglary

FREDERICK, MD - Two Frederick families who were going to get homes around Thanksgiving now have their plans put on hold after a burglary at a Habitat for Humanity trailer.
"They're planning on these homes, and we're planning on doing more homes. Right after this, we have other homes that we want to get done, so it's not just these two families. It's all the other partner families that we have in the pipeline that have to wait for their homes," said Ron Cramer, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County.
Someone broke into a trailer where the homes are getting built along West 7th Street and stole $4,000 worth of tools. It happened sometime between Saturday and Monday.
"We're a little behind schedule already on this house, and not having the tools builds quite a bit of anxiety for me because we want to have homes done for our partner families," Cramer said. "We want to see people get into their homes and move forward with their lives."
Volunteers need the tools to build the homes.
Habitat is now looking for donations of either tools or money so they can continue building the duplex.
"I think it's really just a striking sadness that someone would steal from Habitat for Humanity," Cramer said. "We're a Christian-based organization, and I think our homeowner who lives next door said it best. It's kind of like stealing from God."
