WINCHESTER, VA - The Virginia Regional Chamber is trying to help businesses create more jobs.
Rubbermaid, Mary Kay cosmetics, and Valley Health are a few of the big companies the Top Virginia Regional Chamber has been networking with.
With its current 850 members, the Chamber has recruited 50 new members from large businesses and more members mean more services and more jobs.
"You know, getting more people into the Chamber hopefully makes the businesses stronger, keep them around longer and encourage them to invest in their own businesses and create more jobs, we're certainly supportive of that," says Randy Collins, president and CEO of the Virginia Regional Chamber.
Employees and board members have volunteered to call non-members about the benefits of the Chamber.
Collin says the Chamber receives majority of its funding through membership investments and events.
More services and programs can be provided if there are more people.
"It's an opportunity for a business person to take their business card and give it to someone else who might need that product or service. Businesses are so busy running their businesses that they don't network enough so we think the chamber offers that one thing we offer is the opportunity to network and spread the news about what they do," adds Collins.
With a larger team, needs of the community can be easily addressed and fixed.
"Our goal is to help get new members in, create more advocacy and network," says Michael Guevremont, a campaign volunteer. "The goal being to promote the businesses is that we get into the Chamber."
While the networking was aimed towards businesses, they say each new member can have a large impact on job creation and community involvement.
