WALKERSVILLE, MD - A non-profit group in Frederick County, Md. will have some extra help after the county cut a third of its funding.
Goodwill Industries of the Monocacy Valley is opening up its eighth retail store later in the fall. It's along Route 194 in Walkersville.
Goodwill helps the disabled and needy learn job skills and get employment.
"The more stores that we're able to have in Frederick and Carroll Counties means the more people that we're going to be able to help get back to work. Our job at Goodwill is to strengthen our communities, get people to work, and get people the dignity of having a job," said Leigh Sauter, with Goodwill of the Monocacy Valley.
About 85 percent of its funding comes from sales at retail stores.
"It's very important that we have donations and we collect donations so that we can help more people find jobs," Sauter said. "The new store will help us be able to increase the number of people that we serve by being able to collect more donations."
Even though the 13,000 square foot store isn't open, you can still donate to fill it up. Goodwill is looking for furniture, books, clothing, and household items.
"We're accepting donations currently at the future location of the Walkersville store right in the parking lot," Sauter said. "We have an attended donation center that's set up right outside, and people can just drive up and donate. We'll print them out a receipt right there."
The new store will create 30 new jobs. It's expected to open in November.
