Students like Jacob Madock have trained at Smith's Karate in Smithsburg in Taekwondo.  Taekwondo is similar to karate, but has longer stances and involves more kicking.  The Sport trains students how to react in case of a confrontation.

Madock says, "It's made me a better person. I'm more controlled in situations of stress, such as school, and in everyday life"

Michael Robinson has been teaching the sports in the area for more than 3 decades.  He said,
"I've seen a lot of people come through here, and it changes peoples lives."

Taekwondo didn't become a recognized sport until 1945, and wasn't in the Olympics until the year 2000 -- but it's always been a confidence booster.

Smith's karate offers taekwondo programs for students as young as 5, all the way up to Adults.
