HAGERSTOWN, MD - Speed cameras will be placed in school zones in Hagerstown.

Through a unanimous vote, the city council approved the ordinance Tuesday night.

Hagerstown city police will study certain areas in the city, to figure out where to place the cameras.

Drivers could get a $40.00 fine if they are caught going more than 12-miles-per-hour over the posted speed limit. However, no points will be added to the driver's license.

Up to 16 cameras could be installed by Brekford Corporation, a company in Hanover, MD. The company will also maintain the equipment.

Officials say there will be signs to warn motorists of the speed cameras once they have been installed.

Police will discuss the results about the best places to mount the cameras with the mayor and city council in January.
