On 12/14/11 a criminal summons was served on Shanna Lee Schriner, age 18, of Cumberland charging her with misdemeanor theft.  The charges were the result of a Cumberland Police investigation initiated 11/15/11 after the suspect allegedly rented a computer from a local business and then pawned it for profit.
On 12/14/11 Cumberland Police Officers responded to a Park Street business for a report of a shoplifting.  Upon arrival officers located the suspect leaving the business with a bag of crab legs that he allegedly had stolen.  As a result Harold Virgil James, age 21, of Cumberland was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft and released pending trial.
On 12/14/11 at 6:17pm Cumberland Police Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue for a report of an assault.  Upon arrival officers discovered several people involved in an altercation.  The responding officers initiated an investigation and interviewed several people including a 46 year old female victim.  The victim reported that she had been held at knifepoint by an acquaintance during the assault.  The victim exhibited minor lacerations which she said were a result of the attack.  The victim refused any medical treatment for her injuries.  The suspect was still on the scene and as a result Bernard Cornelius Fletcher, age 53, of Laurel, MD, and was charged with felony assault, misdemeanor assault, and reckless endangerment.   Following his arrest Bernard Fletcher was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was held without bail.
The Cumberland Police Department is investigating burglary that was reported to have occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Bedford Street.  During this incident the suspects forced open a rear entrance door and stole several items of jewelry and a large quantity of quarters.

Maryland State Police, Frederick:

On 12/15/2011 at 12:47 AM, TFC Scott Ciccarelli was positioned stationary on the right shoulder of I-70 West of Rt.180, Frederick County, MD, conducting speed enforcement on the eastbound lanes of travel.  At the above noted time, he observed a Black Honda Accord approaching his location at a high rate of speed in lane 1. Utilizing an electronic speed device he obtained a speed reading of 82 MPH in the posted 65 MPH speed zone.

Based on the speed violation, a traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle.  TFC Ciccarelli then made contact with the driver Andre George Thomas along with 2 other occupants in the vehicle. While speaking with Mr. Thomas, TFC Ciccarelli detected a moderate odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the car.  Continued investigation revealed marijuana found within the vehicle.

Desean Alberto Martinez, (DOB 01/06/1992) who was the back passenger of the vehicle, was arrested without incident and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing.
