Police Log: 11/15

Maryland State Police, Hagerstown:
On 11-15-2011 at approximately 03:50 A.M., Sr Tpr D. Matthews, attempted to stop a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with MD tag 3EYE31 on Northern Avenue in the area of Oak Hill Avenue for speeding, 80 MPH in 25 MPH zone.   The vehicle failed to stop and sped away westbound on Northern Avenue.  When the Chevrolet reached the intersection of Northern Avenue and U.S. Rt 11, the driver was traveling too fast to negotiate the curve and ended up going off the roadway into the Rest Haven Cemetery, damaging 2 grave markers.  The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was able to elude search by units from MSP Hagerstown, Hagerstown City Police and Washington County Sheriff's Department, including K-9 unit/track.  The passenger of the vehicle, registered owner Maria Christine McMellen, 22, of Boonsboro, MD, was taken into custody at the scene, but denied knowledge of the driver.  Information was found in the vehicle which revealed the driver to be Travon Brown, 23 of , Hagerstown, MD.

Matthews positively identified Brown through MVA photos and will be seeking charges through the Washington County District Court Commissioner. 
Shortly after 5:00 A.M., DFC Litten of the Washington County Sheriff's Department located Brown on Pennsylvania Avenue near Cafe Italia.  Brown was taken into custody and will face numerous traffic charges including DUI and Attempting to Flee and Elude Police.  McMellen was released with no charges
Waynesboro Police Department:

On November 12, 2011 at approximately 0412 hrs, the Waynesboro Police Department was dispatched to 518 West Tenth St. for a domestic. While en route county advised that the female had locked the male outside of the residence. County advised that the individuals involved were Jesse Capino (27 y.o.a.) and Amy Wetzel (26 y.o.a.) both of 518 West Tenth Street.

Upon arrival Capino was sitting on the front porch. An officer proceeded inside the residence spoke with Wetzel.

Capino was very intoxicated. Capino was outside and speaking loud.  Capinow was told he needed to lower his voice because it was early in the morning. Capino continued to be loud.  It was learned Capino assaulted Wetzel when he came come. Wetzel had a large bump/bruise on her forehead, a scratch approximately 4 inches in length on the left side of her face near her jaw line and a brush burn on the inside of her left elbow.

Capino was placed under arrest for domestic violence and taken into custody.  Jesse Capino was charged with one count each of simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.

On or about 11/12/11 at approximately 05:08 hours the Waynesboro Police Department was dispatched to 28 E. Main St., Apartment #5, WBO for a report a white male who was wearing glasses with a shaved head and goatee attempting to break in to the caller's apartment by beating on the door. Dispatch advised the suspect had broken through the door, but then ran down the front stairwell.

Officers arrived on scene to the front of the building and I arrived on scene to the rear of the building.  Various clothing articles were located in the hallways of the building.

In the second floor hallway an officer heard someone talking while walking down the hallway in my direction. A white male fitting the description given of the suspects appeared.  The white male appeared to be talking to himself and was missing various articles of clothing.  An odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the individual and he appeared to be visibly intoxicated. The unidentified male produced his Pennsylvania driver's license.  He was identified as David Myers (21 y.o.a.) of 125 West Third Street; Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

 It was confirmed with the tenants of this apartment that Myers did not live there, was not staying there, and that they did not know Myers. Upon making contact with the residents of apartment #5 and whose apartment door was observed to be visibly broken, Myers was identified as the W/M who damaged the door to the apartment.  Myers was placed under arrest.  Myers is being charged with violating section 3304(a)(5) of the PACC relating to criminal mischief, a summary offense, and section 5505 of the PACC relating to public drunkenness and similar misconduct, a summary offense.   Myers was released into the care of his wife.

On 11/12/11 at approximately 0739 hours the Waynesboro Police Department was dispatched to the area of 24 N. Franklin Street for a report of a domestic between a male and female.

Upon arrival in the area the officer was advised the couple was next to Turkey Hill Mini Mart.  Contact was made with Corrine Michaud (37 y.o.a.) of no fixed address and Paul Hopple (32 y.o.a.) of 22 Fairview Avenue; Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.  They were on the sidewalk next to the parking lot at Turkey Hill.  Michaud stated that she and Hopple were having a verbal argument.

While speaking to Hopple, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath.  Michaud stated that Hopple had been drinking vodka.  Hopple stated that he is on probation and has a no drink order.  Contact was made with Adult Probation to see what they wanted done with Hopple.  At the request of Franklin County Adult Probation Hopple was taken into custody and later released to Adult Probation.  Hopple was issued a non-traffic citation for Public Drunkenness.

On 11/12/12011 @ 1059 hours the Waynesboro Police Department was dispatched to 710 S. Church Street for the report of Criminal Mischief to a vehicle.

At this location the complainant/victim, Mary Taylor, showed where her 2005 Ford van had been egged along the driver's side. According to Taylor, the egging caused scratches to the paint at various locations on that same side. Taylor also showed where there was a deep scratch in the actual glass on the driver's side door glass.  There was no other damage observed on the vehicle.

Cumberland Police Department:
On 11/14/11 at 10:38am Officers from the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence in the 500blk of High Bedford St in reference to an assault. Upon arrival Officers obtained a statement from the victim who stated that an argument ensued over money. According to the victim, the argument then turned physical with the suspect punching and grabbing a hold of the victim. The victim had minor injuries consistent with the events that were described. The victim did not require medical attention. Officers then located the suspect; 28 year old Michael Hite of Cumberland a short distance from the residence. Hite was placed under arrest and charged with one count of Second Degree Assault. Hite was taken for an initial appearance at the District Court of Maryland where he was held ordered to the Allegany County Detention Center on an  $10,000 bond.
