Frederick County, MD Sheriff:
The Frederick County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating a residential fire that occurred on 10/12/2011. At approximately 2:15 a.m. fire rescue units were dispatched from Frederick, Washington, Adams and Franklin Counties for a house fire in the 17000 block of Raven Rock Rd in Cascade, Maryland. Emergency Communications received several 911 calls from passers-by who reported the incident. Units arrived to find a vacant, two-story residential structure being consumed by fire. Frederick County Fire Investigation Task Force investigators were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
Investigators have learned that the structure and property have been vacant for several years. The dollar loss is estimated to be $75,000 as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with any information about the fire should contact Deputy Fire Marshal Eddie Ruch at 301-600-6876.
Cumberland City Police:
On October 12, 2011 at approximately 6:30 PM a Cumberland Police Department officer observed a traffic violation on Virginia Avenue and stopped the vehicle. The officer detected an odor of raw marihuana and then conducted a search of the vehicle. The officer located a quantity of suspected marihuana in the vehicle. Clifford Thomas Perkins, age 27 of Cumberland, was arrested for possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Perkins was taken to Cumberland Police Department for processing and then to Allegany County District Court for an initial appearance. Perkins was held on $3,500 bond in the Allegany County Detention Center.
On October 12, 2011 at approximately 9: 45 PM the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 400 block of Baltimore Avenue for a 911 hang up call. Officers contacted Steven Michael Rose, age 24 of Cumberland, in the parking lot and he stated that they were called because of him. Rose was refused service due to his intoxication level and began to cause a problem inside and refused to leave. While inside speaking with the staff, Rose began to yell and come back inside. After being told repeatedly to go back outside, he refused and pushed an officer in the chest while attempting to further inside. Rose was taken into custody and charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Disorderly Conduct. Rose was taken to Cumberland Police Department for processing and then to Allegany County District Court for an initial appearance. Rose was then released on personal recognizance.
On October 12, 2011 the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Megan Michelle Batzel, age 23 of Cumberland. The arrest warrant was the result of investigation by Cumberland Police Department involving the theft of medication at Devlin Manor Nursing Home on September 19, 2011. Batzel allegedly was found in possession of the medication and they were not prescribed to her. Baztel was charged multiple counts of CDS possession other than marihuana, Theft less than $100, and CDS remove prescription label. Batzel was taken to Cumberland Police Department for processing and then to Allegany County District for an initial appearance, where she was released on personal recognizance
Maryland State Police, Cumberland:
On 10/13/11 at approximately 1000 hours, Troopers of the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack were dispatched to the Glenn A Ford & Son Drilling located at 11200 Mount Savage Road, Corriganville, MD, regarding a destruction of property. When the Troopers arrived, they learned the victim's 1999 Ford F-550 pickup truck had been damaged. Victim advised Troopers this incident could have been committed between 09/29/2011 to 10/12/2011. Allegany County Sheriff:
On October 12, 2011, the Allegany County Sheriff's Office conducted a theft investigation involving an historical railroad artifact which was stolen from the Westernport Train Station, located on Maryland Avenue in Westernport. The Westernport Train Station is under the direction of the Westernport Historical Society and displays historical railroad artifacts for the public. During the course of this investigation it was learned that on October 10, 2011 between the hours of midnight and 2:00 AM two individuals stole a rare railroad stand and attempted to sell the item at a scrap yard for profit. The two individuals was positively identified and the artifact was recovered. The two individuals were arrested and charged with theft less than $1,000.00. The Sheriff's Office expresses appreciation for the citizens of Westernport who provided key information which led to the recovery and arrests of the two individuals involved. The following are the two suspects arrested and charged:
