WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD - Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating a fatal crash in Hagerstown Thursday Morning.

Deputies have identified the victim as 70-year-old George Eugene Koons from Falling Waters, West Virginia.

Deputies and Troopers arrived on the scene at 16909 Virginia Avenue around 5 a.m. Thursday, to find a Dodge truck in a ditch on fire.

According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, witnesses were able to pull Koons from the truck, but had to step back, because the flames were too hot.

After emergency crews arrived, the flames were extinguished, but the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials are still trying to determine if Koons died before or after the crash.
