NOON NEWSMAKER: Tom Riford Kicks Off the Red Cross Heroes Campaign
By:
Updated: April 6, 2011
Tom Riford, president of the Washington County Visitor's Bureau, visits WHAG to talk about the kick off for the Red Cross' Heroes campaign.
All of the money from this fundraiser goes right back to the community for the programs the local chapters run. The money is raised local and stays local!
A "hero" for the Red Cross is someone who commits to raising $1000 or more. This annual campaign has successfully helped chapters raise significant revenue from new sources while allowing chapters to increase local awareness of the Red Cross mission within the communities.
When you raise $1000 for the American Red Cross, your money touches the lives of families in different ways:
Did you know... $1000 will provide 166 meal tickets for veterans transported to the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg.
$1000 will provide 20 free CPR/AED first aid adult classes to community members that cannot afford it.
$1000 will provide 200 meals for clients in an emergency shelter, like the one provided for the transportation accidents on I-70.
$1000 will provide food for 8 families of four who lost their home to a fire or natural disaster.
There are many other ways $1000 can provide help to those who need it.
There will be a Heroes Kick-off breakfast April 13, 2011 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at 1131 Conrad Court, Hagerstown. To RSVP, call 301-739-0717 by April 8th.
