February 2008 Male Student Athlete of the Month

Our male Student Athlete of the Month is Hedgesville senior, Denver Effland. Denver is a three year starter for the Eagles basketball team, averaging 12 points and almost six rebounds per game.
"Ever since I was young everybody's told me that you have to work on your books first before basketball," says Denver. "Even though I love basketball and it's more fun than books, but you know it's really important for studies."
In the classroom Denver sports a 3.9 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He also helps out with basketball camps and is active in his church.
"Coach Church is really hard on me and everybody on the team about getting our grades done but my parents are really hard on me too also with grades. Ever since we were young, me and my brothers, they've always preached grades."
