Our female Student Athlete of the Month is Rachel Reeder, a senior at James Buchanan High School. Rachel is co-captain of the varsity swim team and has held the school's record for the 100 backstroke since her sophomore year.
"Well it takes a lot of time management but I think sports sort of teaches you how to be dedicated and how to manage your time and that helps both at sports and in school," says Rachel.
Out of the water Rachel maintains a weighted GPA of 4.33 and is number one in her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers for the Tuscarora Wildlife Education Project. She has received an appointment to the Air Force Academy where she plans to study biology and continue her swimming career.
"My parents have been huge supporters of mine through all these years. They've driven me places, they've supported me and encouraged me and my coaches have always been there to push me."
