FRANKLIN COUNTY, PA - It's the fall season and vendors are prepping the foods, farmers are picking their crops, and in a few hours people will be packing the street for the Mercersburg Town Fest. This festival is just the first for many in Franklin County.
"We have great festivals in Franklin county with festivals in different towns," says Janet Pollard from the Franklin County Visitors Bureau. "We start it off September 24 for the Mercersburg Town Fest."
Franklin County has festivals that run until the end of October and they've remained popular in the community. There are numerous festivals in towns such as Greencastle and Chambersburg. The Mercersburg Town Fest is the first for the fall and it attracts thousands of people. People are able to enjoy a stroll downtown and participate in activities for all ages.
"It's family, it's a great girlfriend get away, because you can come to one of the festivals and shop our arts and crafts and then you can do a great meal" says Pollard. "We have great cuisine."
The food is what brings some people back. Franklin County is rich in agriculture with crops such as corn and many fruits grown. During the festivals, the community comes together to enjoy some of the harvest before winter comes through.
"It's fall, the bounty of the harvest," says Pollard. "A lot of them focus on apples. They have great homemade apple dumplings and pies and they say they're applelicious."
