SAAA Holds Special Meeting, Revisits Lawsuit

FRONT ROYAL, VA - The Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging is back in 'closed door talks' to tackle the last lawsuit against them.

"The only one the agency has right now is the lawsuit that was filed by Mrs. McIntyre," says John Hudson, the SAAA Board Chair.

The agency reached a settlement last summer in the suit from its former director.

Now, the remaining defamation suit from ex-official Ann McIntyre is making its way back into the forefront. An attorney from Timberlake, Smith, Thomas and Moses attended the special meeting, where after a two-hour closed session, the board chair was given permission to speak to lawyers about the case on the agency's behalf.

Fundraising still remains a priority for the SAAA.

"We are conducting a fundraising campaign that's just in its infant stages," says. "We have brought a fundraiser on board and we are hoping that he is successful in raising some funds for the agency."

SAAA officials say they are still in good spirits and will have more financial updates in the coming weeks.

"We've had a bright spot in the past month when we actually dedicated our new living center in Clarke County which was a very positive thing," Hudson says. "But we are continuing to try to deal with the finances here at the agency."

The team is working to make these issues are a thing of the past. But they say they're committed to being there for the seniors in the future. The next regular board meeting will be March 25th.
