Winter Storm Warnings Issued; Major Winter Storm On The Way To The Region

By: WHAG Weather Team
Updated: March 4, 2013
HAGERSTOWN, MD - After a fairly quiet winter, looks like it's going to go out with a bang as a major winter storm is on the way to the region.

One of the biggest snow system to impact the region in the past few years is on the way for Tuesday Night and into Wednesday...

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for most of the WHAG Viewing Area...Effective from 6:00 PM Tuesday to Midnight Wednesday.

The rest of the WHAG Viewing Area not in the warning remains under a Winter Storm Watch from Tuesday Evening through Wednesday Night, but that should be upgraded either early tomorrow morning.

Right now, most of the area stands to see anywhere from 5 to 10 inches of snow by Wednesday Evening with us more than likely ending up on the higher side of that range.

As you work into the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and our Northern Virginia Counties, they could see anywhere from 10 inches to closing in on 1 foot of snow, or better with isolated higher amounts.

The snow that will fall across the region will be a heavy, wet snow which besides causing travel problems during this period, could also bring down power lines and tree limbs, as this snow will have a lot of moisture content to it.

Needless to say, this is going to be one of the largest storms this area has seen in the past few years, and if model runs come in different, these snowfall amounts could have to be adjusted upward.

Stay with the WHAG Weather team with winter and severe weather hits the area, we'll keep you informed as these events roll though on their social media platforms as well as Your4State.com.
