HAGERSTOWN, MD- A Hagerstown man charged with stabbing a girl in the chest is scheduled to be in court next month to face charges that he molested the same girl last year.

38-year-old Jenerette Dixon, of 340 Jonathan Street, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and other offenses after stabbing a younger female family relative in the chest at his house over the weekend during a two-hour standoff with police.

Police say they found the victim on the front porch of Dixon's home. She was taken to Meritus Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. They say she is expected to recover.

Washington County District Court officials say Dixon was also charged in October with sex abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sex offense, and second-degree assault. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Court documents say the assault initially happened in January 2003, with Dixon pleading guilty in August 2003.

It is unclear why Washington County District Court commissioners released Dixon, a convicted felon, after the sex abuse charges were filed.

Dixon is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

He's due in Washington County Circuit Court on March 18th for a motions hearing relating to the sex abuse charges.
