Doctors Calling the Flu an Epidemic In Washington County

HAGERSTOWN, MD - As many continue to battle the flu, so are local hospitals as patients keep pouring in.
Doctors say the hospital has become so crowded they're taking extra measures to create more space for patients.
"The hospital has been filled to its capacity. We had to open a new wing in the hospital. And most of this is because of the influenza epidemic," says Dr. Mohammed Ali of Meritus Medical Center.
Doctor Ali says the flu has become an epidemic in Washington County, and he's encouraging everyone to get the flu vaccine if you haven't already received one.
"I strongly encourage people to take flu shots. Some people may feel flu-like symptoms after getting a shot but it will protect them from getting severe influenza infection," says Ali.
Ali says while the flu may have reached its peak, it's possible it can ramp up again in the next couple of months.
