MARTINSBURG, WV-  Ashley Carpegna, who at the time of the crime was Bennett's girlfriend, got a chance to tell her side of the story Friday.

Carpegna says she had been dating Bennett for five months when the shooting happened. She told the jury she thought Bennett was out of town when she took three men back to their apartment, on Winchester Avenue, after her shift ended at an exotic dance club.

Carpegna says she remembers seeing Bennett waving a gun around after she started yelling at one of the men for not paying her and then heard a gunshot.

During the questioning, she told attorneys she doesn't remember a lot of the details from that night because she had taken drugs. Carpegna admitted to being under the influence of xanex, cocaine, heroin and alcohol.

She also admitted she tampered with the crime scene by bleaching the floor to clean up some of the blood and that she initially lied to police about what happened.

Omar Navarro, one of the men who witnessed the shooting, will take the stand next Tuesday.
