FREDERICK, MD- Hundreds of Maryland high school students are gathered in Frederick County for a two-day drama festival.

They took to the stage at Tuscarora High School and competed at the 2013 Maryland Thespian Festival. Students from 23 high schools participated, including Tuscarora, Barbara Ingram, and Walkersville.

Judges made up of professional actors and theater professors rated the students on professionalism, staging and effectiveness.  It's an opportunity for the teenagers to show the judging panel their acting chops.

"Being able to go out on that stage knowing that you are about to portray another character or another person, that's the best thing because you get to explore yourself more," says Marcel Martin, a Tuscarora High School student.

Winners will be announced on Saturday.  They will be awarded college scholarships and a chance to perform at the 2013 International Thespian Festival which will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska.
