Despite Red And Green Shimmers, Many Feeling Holiday Blues

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Despite all the reds and greens still shimmering from the holiday season, it's not always the happiest time of the year. Many are left feeling the holiday blues.

"We often see an increase from Thanksgiving through the new year. All the family preparations. The expectations. What is it going to be like. What's going to happen," says Dr. Mike Shea of Brook Lane Health Services.

Officials with the Brook Lane Health Services say it's a particularly busy time of year for them, as many are seeking help and support to battle holiday depression.

One reason so many are stressed is because it's a time when people tend to reflect on their lives.

"I believe people look back on their past. They look at what could have been done differently, in a family environment. Then they dwell on it," says Sharee O'Haver of YMCA.

But there are ways to beating the holiday blues. Experts say how you eat and the kind of goals you set can impact your overall well being.

In short, Dr. Shea says one important part of being healthy all around, is having a sense of humor. No joke.
