HAGERSTOWN, MD - A Hagerstown man was sentenced Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court to a total of 55 years in prison for the 2011 death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.

Brian Miller, 34, pleaded guilty on September 11, 2012, to first-degree child abuse resulting in death and two counts of second-degree felony child abuse in the death of Logan Sellers.

Court officials say Miller has been sentenced to the maximum of 30 years for first-degree child abuse resulting in death and an additional 10 more years for one of the second-degree child abuse convictions. Officials say Miller also received a 15 year suspended sentence for the other second-degree child abuse conviction and five years of supervised probation upon release from prison.

On October 5, 2011, Hagerstown Police say Miller was babysitting his then girlfriend's son, Logan Sellers, when she was at school. According to the prosecutor, Miller got angry and slammed Seller's head against the floor on several different occasions.

Seller was hospitalized for several days at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. in critical condition, where later died on October 10, 2011.

Assistant State's Attorney Brett Wilson says because this was a crime of violence, Miller could serve half his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
