Car Crashes Into Winchester Home, Fourth Time in Months

WINCHESTER, VA- The intersection of Boscawen Street and East Lane isn't a busy one. However, the tight lanes and railroad tracks have led to many close calls.

"I said one of these times, they're gonna run into that house," says Lillian Haymaker.

That's exactly what happened Monday afternoon. Police say around 2:00 p.m. a 78-year-old woman's car jumped the curb hitting the house at 225 Boscawen Street.

"She was very upset as to what happened at the accident," says Winchester Police Corporal Chris Ivins. "She just overcorrected."

Lillian Haymaker lives next door and sees the traffic daily.

"I'm glad it wasn't my house," she says. "I said I wouldn't live on that corner for nothing. But, we've had neighbors years ago when we moved here and nothing ever happened."

But, recently there have been multiple accidents at the house.

Winchester Police say this is the fourth time the house has been hit in the last six months. When Monday's accident happened, the house had not yet been repaired from the accident before. Fortunately, no one was at home at the time of the crash.

"The home was actually vacant," Ivins says. "It just recently switched ownership. So, nobody lives there currently," he adds.

There's been no explanation in the recent rise in accidents. But, police say the turn is doable. It just takes extra attention.

"Pay attention to the layout of the street and take it slow," says Ivins.

Meanwhile, neighbors hope the house can get a break to finally rebuild.
