Gary Cline built South Mountain Plantation Christmas Tree Farm decades ago. Now it's for sale. But Cline is ready to sell trees this season.
Those customers can choose their own tree from the farm's 30,000 and bring it home.
"It's the experience that you're paying for," says Cline. "The family comes out and starts the Christmas season off."
Cut-your-own trees on this lot go for $35 to $45. And customers hope it will be open for many Christmases to come.
While a fake tree can be used for years, making it more cost-effective overall, many Americans are going for a real one.
According to the National Christmas Tree Association, the industry drives a $1.7 billion business with about 30 million real trees and 10 million artificial trees sold each year.
