Cumberland police are teaming up with various Allegany County public agencies, including the sheriff's office and combined narcotics investigation unit. They say it's a collaboration to monitor nearly 40 individuals who are responsible for the majority of the crimes.

We are not sure that it is contributes to economic issues of what specifically but we have seen an increase," says David Goad, the Program Coordinator of Safe Streets Initiative. "We have a pretty large appetite here for the drug area a lot of people here are involved in the drug culture."
The initiative is funded through a state grant over $150,000. The program runs until June of 2013.
