Franklin County Adds More Jobs Slowly, but Surely

FRANKLIN COUNTY, PA- Jobs in Franklin County are increasing slowly but surely.

According to Pennsylvania's Workforce Information "The number of new jobs in 2012 was about 700. But the year before that the county added almost double that number, 1200 jobs."

"I think that can be attributed in the manufacturing sector that some global markets stopped operating unexpectedly," says Mike Ross, president of the Franklin County Area Development Corporation.

With that being said, county officials have high hopes for 2013.

"We think certain investments that took place in 2012 will position us well for 2013," says Ross. "We think there are some things that are happening that are going to go well for the future."

But with Letter Kenny Army Depot in their backyard, they can't help but think about the effects sequestration could have on the community.

"It filters right through the community when those employees at Letter Kenny with disposable incomes are no longer buying the pizzas or the new cars," says Ross.

County officials say, with sequestration as the exception, they think 2013 will be a successful year.

County officials say they're working on several major projects that would add more jobs and will announce any decisions they make over the next 30 to 60 days.
