FREDERICK, MD-The Frederick Fairgrounds was filled with locals checking out some of the latest home improvements to hit the market.

"By putting the booth here at the Frederick County Home Show we're trying to establish and educate the customers of life safety systems," says Bryan Oliver of Noel's Fire Protection.

Bryan Oliver says selling sprinklers is more than just a job, but a necessity and that every home should have smoke alarms that work properly.

"It's a life safety issue we recently had two little girls in Myersville passed away and it's, its something you should have," says Oliver.

Nearly 160 vendors were offering their input and services to the public, some trying to encourage people to make their houses greener.

"You could actually get some of the money back over the life of the system, it's actually counteracting with the amount you pay in your electric bill every month," says Brunner.

While the energy efficient units cost more, they could help you save money in the long run.

And for those who aren't quite yet homeowners, there was the Builders Olympics. Students from Frederick County Public School's Career & Technology Center had a chance to compete against each other, and learn from industry professionals.

"A lot of these guys are framers and electricians and they work elbow to elbow with these students and to see that interaction is just priceless," says Andrew Wivell, a co-chair of the Builder Olympics.

This show was the 38th annual.
