Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories Issued for Four State Region

By: WHAG Weather Team
Updated: March 18, 2013
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Snow will develop late tonight into Monday.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for the counties in pink from this evening into Monday evening for the potential of up to 6" of snow.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for the counties in purple from this evening into Monday evening for a light accumulation of snow.

Light to moderate snow will begin to overspread the region overnight tonight and continue into Monday morning. All snow is expected through late morning, then a transition to a wintry mix will occur from late morning and heading into the early afternoon hours. Areas under the Winter Storm Warning have the potential to see 3-6 inches of snow, with an additional light accumulation of ice possible. Areas under a Winter Weather Advisory, will generally see 1-3 inches of snow before a changeover to more of a mix occurs.

Heading into the afternoon and evening, temperatures will continue to rise, and many locations will begin to change over to a plain rain. One exception will be the higher elevations and areas furthest west, where an extended period of sleet and freezing rain may occur with temperatures remaining closer to the freezing mark.

Given the time of year and marginal temperatures, most of the snow accumulation across the valley locations is expected to occur on grassy, non-paved surfaces. The mountainous areas and higher elevations (above 1,500ft.) will have a better chance of seeing roadways become slushy and icy throughout the day tomorrow.

Stay with the WHAG Weather team with winter and severe weather hits the area, we'll keep you informed as these events roll though on their social media platforms as well as Your4State.com.
