In Berkeley County, the deputy superintendent donned a cat in the hat suit to read to classes at Marlowe Elementary School.
He says studies have shown students who are reading on grade-level by the third grade are set for more academic success later on.
Kids loved reading the Dr. Seuss classics, helping rhyme as they went.
"I think Dr. Seuss has been a favorite for the ages because his books have taught a lot of students to read," says Deputy Superintendent Don Dellinger.
It would be Dr. Seuss's 109th birthday.
