Frederick Police Crack Down On DUI Checks

FREDERICK, MD- The Frederick Police Department announced on Friday they're joining with other federal, state and local highway safety enforcement officials in support in an intense crackdown on drunk driving.
Police say they'll be stepping up patrols and DUI checkpoints this March and April conducted through the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
It's called Checkpoint Strikeforce, and police say they'll be stopping vehicles throughout the spring in an effort to reduce traffic accidents.
Police say their approach includes being active in educating the public and communicating with residents. Police stress they want the public to know they will be out there protecting them and trying to saves lives.
The Frederick Police Department stated in a online press release:
"Driving impaired or riding with someone who is impaired is simply not worth the risk, not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can be really significant.
Violators often face jail time, loss of their driver's licenses, or being sentenced to use ignition interlocks. Their insurance rates go up. Other financial costs include attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and the potential loss of job or job prospects.
