MOORE LEADS SHEPHERD MEN PAST WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Senior forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) scored a game-high 39 points to lead Shepherd University to a 105-91 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Senior Night on Thursday.

Moore hit on 13-of-21 field goals with an 11-12 effort from the foul line. He added five rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

Junior guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) added 21 points on an 8-of-15 shooting effort with a 5-of-7 performance from three-point range. Osborne (88 three-pointers) set a Shepherd season record, surpassing the old mark of 85 set by Ben Stephens in 1991-92.
 
Senior forward Sidney McCray (Milton, FL/St. Paul's School) tossed in 14 points, while junior guard Marcus Pilgrim (Mitchellville, MD/Bishop McNamara) tossed in 11.

Sophomore guard Austin Cunningham (Belpre, OH/Ohio Valley) dished out a team-high 10 assists.

Kelsey Williams led the Bobcats with 23 points and nine rebounds. Former Jefferson High standout Garrett Grantham added 15 points and five assists, while Raymond Warren had 13 points and 12 assists.

Shepherd shot 56.9 percent (37-65) from the floor with a 54.5 percent (12-22) effort from three-point range. The Rams hit on 19-of-23 free throws (82.6 percent).

West Virginia Wesleyan shot 55 percent (33-60) from the floor with a 13-of-23 effort (56.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Bobcats connected on 12-of-17 free throws (70.6 percent).

Shepherd had a 34-26 edge on the boards.

The game was tied at halftime, 44-44. Shepherd started the second half on a 24-9 run and opened up a 68-53 lead after a pair of McCray free throws with 15:27 left to pull away. Moore and Osborne each had six points during the run.

Shepherd improves to 15-11, 12-10 in WVIAC action, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 11-13, 7-12. The Rams await word this weekend on the pairings for next week's WVIAC Tournament.

SHEPHERD WOMEN DOWN WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Senior forward Emily Daniel (Beaver, WV/Shady Spring) scored 18 points and senior guard Alex Tamez (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs/The Miller School {Va) added 15 points and game-highs of six assists and five steals to lead Shepherd University to a 74-58 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Senior Night on Thursday.

Daniel hit on 7-of-16 shots with a 4-of-6 effort from the foul line.

Sophomore center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, MD/Wootton) added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while senior guard Priscilla Moseh (Springfield, VA/Robert E. Lee/Frederick CC) had nine points, three rebounds, three steals, and a pair of assists.

Brittany Maxey had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Courtney Small added 11 points.

The Rams shot 48.3 percent (29-30) from the floor, 0 percent (0-4) from three-point range, and 76.2 percent (16-21) from the line.

The Bobcats hit at 40.7 percent (24-59) from the floor, 33.3 percent (5-15) from beyond the arc, and 55.6 percent (5-9) from the charity stripe.

West Virginia Wesleyan had 40-31 advantage on the boards.

Trailing 33-26 at halftime, Wesleyan rallied to within one point at 38-37 after a jumper by Maxey with 15:22 left in the game. The Rams went on an 11-1 run to build an 11-point lead at 49-38 and never looked back. Flinchum had six points to fuel the run.

Shepherd improves to 13-13, 12-10 in WVIAC action, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 8-16, 7-14. The Rams await word this weekend on the pairings for next week's WVIAC Tournament.
