Police Patrols More Vigilant after Serious Crime Spike

"Crime in frederick has gotten really bad. This bus stop, I got on it last night, me and the driver were having a conversation and she was saying how the crime in Frederick is so bad," says Maria Alameda of Frederick.
But others like Dana Scott say, Frederick is a safe place.
"My wife and I walk around different hours of the day night so we feel good out here."
As for the patrol units, they're doing their part, to keep the streets safe. Foot Patrol units started in the Downtown area in June and officers say keeping the streets safe has always been their top priority, especially now.
"We have been a little more vigilant with the recent robbery down at Colonial Jewelers. We're hoping our presence down here is making a difference to people knowing the police are close by," says Cpl. Charles Snyder, of the Frederick Police Department.
"We've seen police making sure the people here are here for the right reasons. So we have largely felt safe and secure, I guess depending on where you walk around," says Scott Avey of Middletown.
Colonial Jewelers has been in Frederick for 65 years and never had an armed robbery before the February 5th incident. Some locals says they're changing their ways after hearing about crimes like this one.
"She won't walk around town in the dark anymore by herself she's scared to," says Alameda.
A Virginia man was arrested in less than 24 hours after the armed robbery at Colonial Jewelers. Alonzo Meadows is being held without bail. Two suspects are still at large.
