MARTINSBURG, WV- Senator Jay Rockefeller met with advocates, survivors and law enforcement officials from around West Virginia on Friday to discuss the Violence Against Women Act of 2013.

"Trying to pass legislation in congress to make sure these programs throughout the state and country can keep their money because this is a total tragedy we're dealing with," says Senator Rockefeller.

He has advocated on many fronts for victims of domestic violence.

Although the Violence Against Women Act was not reauthorized, Senator Rockefeller says he continues his steadfast support toward this important legislation.

Many of those working under programs funded by VAWA met with Senator Rockefeller.

"It's impressive that the senator takes a personal stance on domestic violence which we need the leadership of our country to take an invested interest in topics concerning domestic violence," says Patricia Greenley, of Voices Against Domestic Violence.
