"Jump for Pink": Gymnasts for Breast Cancer Awareness

WILLIAMSPORT, MD - These gymnasts are flipping, twisting and jumping for "Pink."
"It means a lot that the community is aware of this disease and what it does to families and people. So it means a lot that they're doing something, coming together for people with breast cancer," says Christine Maietta, a breast cancer fighter.
The 4-Star gymnastics team from Williamsport is gearing up to compete in the Pink Invitational in Philadelphia this month. Team performances from this weekend are raising funds and awareness for breast cancer.
"It's just amazing. These families and people bringing the kids in to do the jump-a-thon, and participate in the gymnastics class we're having today; I mean as you can see, the gym is full, so I'm glad," says Lisa Noel, a "Jump for Pink" coordinator.
The team will donate all of the money raised to the non-profit, "Unite for Her." Then the team that raises the most earns a grant donated to the breast cancer center or hospital of their choice.
"I really hope that we can bring this grant back to Hagerstown, and really make a difference," says Noel.
Christine Maietta has been fighting cancer since 2010. She says her grandmother died from the disease just before she was born.
"It was a big shock the first time, but I think it was actually more shocking the second time because I wasn't expecting it so quick to come back. I knew when I was 60, maybe 70, that I would have breast cancer again, some form of it, but not when I was 31," shares Maietta.
She says family support is number one.
"Just stay strong. You might have a really bad outcome, but live your life to the fullest, and just appreciate every day that you do have," says Maietta.
She says she and her daughters are proud to be here, jumping for "Pink."
The team is accepting donations only until February 4th.
