HARRISBURG, PA - For many it was a day to check out some of the newest machinery the farming industry has to offer.

Folks came from all over to the 97th annual Pennsylvania Farm Show to see the top of the line products that will be harvesting the crops on farms across America.

Locals were in awe and say they have a better appreciation for the folks responsible for growing produce that is bought off of the supermarket shelves.

"Just how big things are and the equipment needed to produce some much agriculture and stuff that provides us with that we need for our daily basis is pretty amazing," says Karen Engleman, of York County.

"I usually come out here every other year or so, it's just fun to come out and see all the different agricultural stuff and the food court," says Craig Hallowell, of Lehigh County. "It's just a fun place to spend a day in the middle of winter."

Thousands of folks attended the event. Many came to learn about the new technologies, such as improving soil quality. Some residents said they're impressed how far farming has come along.

"I'm amazed how much progress has been made over the years," said Bob Koenig, of Montgomery County. "When I was on a farm 60 years ago it was nothing like what I see here."

For many of the vendors it was a chance for them to show farming enthusiasts the services they offer.

"The farm show gives us an opportunity to have a great outreach program to talk to people from various parts of the state and other states and kind of get our message out there," says Michael Sherman, Pennsylvania FSA.

It was also a bonding day for past and future farmers.

"When I was a little kid we came up here. It's been many years since I have been here, so I figure I'd bring my grandson to see what it is all about," said Jack Carver, of Berks County.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show runs from now until January 12th.
