Community Hungry For More Options

HAGERSTOWN, MD - When you're driving through Hagerstown, whichever way you turn it seems there's another new restaurant popping up.

"We have long standing restaurants and new businesses including health option restaurants and diversity of ethnic foods," says Jill Estavillo of the City of Hagerstown.

So what has attracted so many restaurants to the city?

"I can see a lot of potential in Hagerstown and even with the recession it's still growing and more people are coming in," says Checkers Owner Milak Mehboob

New business is a sign of a thriving economy. That's what some restaurant owners say attracted them to Hagerstown.

"I see it as an up and coming city. Just want to support the downtown and promote growth of downtown," says Owner of 28 Southn E. Jay III.

Even more businesses will be opening soon. Papa Murphy's plans to open a second location next to Checkers. And a Mexican restaurant is expected to open downtown.

All signs of a community that is hungry for more options.

Comments

This is a perfect example of a City leader who doesn't know her bung from a hole in the ground. She lauds the opening of a Checkers as a sign that people want more eating options. My god woman! Look around! The only eating option people in Hagerstown want is another All-You-Can-Eat buffet. Take a drive to Balt. or DC--know where you find the Checkers? In blighted urban areas, that's where. No different here. As for these new Mom-and-Pop places downtown--there's probably a 50/50 chance most of them are laundering drug money. By the way, ask the owners of 28 South how business has been.
