Wilson College Officials Post Pone Decision of Becoming Co-Ed

By: Dana Chicklas
Updated: December 3, 2012
CHAMBERSBURG, PA - The Wilson College Board of Trustees just decided on Saturday to post-pone the decision of becoming fully co-ed or not until January 13, 2013.

School officials say the college is $31 million in debt. Now the Board of Trustees is voting on a strategic plan to avoid a financial crisis, and part of this plan is potentially making the college co-ed, in an attempt to raise enrollment numbers.

This continues to be a heated debate on campus, drawing crowds of students, families and Alumnae to protest. Many Alumnae WHAG spoke with say they will stop donating funds to the School if it becomes co-ed.

Wilson College was established as an all women's college, but has allowed men to enroll in their Adult Degree Programs since 1982. Officials say men currently make up more than 11 percent of the student body.
