FREDERICK, MD - Residents in Frederick County will be able to weigh in on whether there should be a county-wide fire chief.
Commissioners voted to send the idea to two public hearings on December 18th and January 8th.
The county wide chief would oversee operations at 26 volunteer fire departments. The board hopes this would streamline standards throughout the county.
However, many fire chief aren't too hot about the idea.
"I'm just really disappointed in the whole process. I felt like it could have been structured a lot better. There needed to be more involvement from the corporations and legal counsel representing those corporations," said Rodney Masser, fire chief at Independent Hose Company #1.
Commissioners have been working on an ordinance during the past 18 months.
