FREDERICK, MD - Frederick Police Chief Kim Dine is stepping down to become the new Chief of the U.S. Capitol Police in Washington, D.C.
Chief Dine spoke with WHAG's Dawn White minutes after informing Frederick Mayor Randy McClement.
"I'm very excited about taking on this new assignment with the premier federal law enforcement agency, but I will have a great love and affection for one of the finest municipal agencies in the country," Dine said.
Dine ran the Frederick City Police for ten years. He says crime has dropped in that time.
"The Frederick Police Department has been a fantastic 10 years. We have incredible women and men in the agency who have accomplished a whole lot in the last 10 years in terms of building bridges across the community. It's been a great 10 years, and I appreciate their efforts and will never forget it," Dine said.
The City of Frederick issued a statement: "With deep regret, The City of Frederick announces that Chief Kim Dine will transition from the Frederick Police Department to the U.S. Capitol Police Department as their Chief of Police effective early-December 2012. Chief Dine has served the Frederick Community for the past 10 years as Chief of Police."
Mayor Randy McClement will be appointing an interim chief. McClement and the Frederick Board of Aldermen will then decide on a permanent replacement.
