HAGERSTOWN, MD - A stabbing at the Maryland Correctional Institution has sent one inmate to the hospital.

Officials say a 31-year-old inmate was stabbed in the yard during evening recreation time at MCI.

Officials aren't sure who stabbed the man, but say the wounds are serious, and he is being treated at Washington County Hospital.

The victim was serving time on a 23-year sentence for kidnapping and robbery.

The internal investigative unit of the prison system is investigating the incident.
