Reported by: Angelique Gonzalez Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @12:05am EST GARRETT COUNTY, MD - The Maryland Public Service Commission has approved a proposal to bring a 50-megawatt wind-energy farm to Backbone Mountain.
The application by Synergics Wind Energy was approved on Wednesday. The project will bring the farm to a 3-mile site just outside of Oakland. The project has been controversial among local residents. Some say it would ruin local scenery, others have been in favor of the effort to go green. Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley went out to the proposed site for the farm in 2008 to show his support for the project. |
