Reported by: Erin Wolfe and Sarah Hopkins Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @07:30pm EST WAYNESBORO, PA - Three teens were injured after they were hit by a car while walking home from school.
One of them is in serious condition, and she was flown to Hershey Medical Center. Two other boys were injured as well, and one of them was taken to Waynesboro Hospital. Family members at the scene say the male victims are 12 and 14. They suffered only minor injuries, including bruises and contusions. The 12-year-old had his feet run over by the vehicle. Rick DeShong says his truck was hit by an elderly man driving another car. The car pushed past the truck into a sidewalk full of teens walking home from school. DeShong thinks the other driver may have gone unconscious because his car kept accelerating even after he hit the truck and the kids. It happened at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Second Street just before 3:00 p.m. DeShong says he was trying to make a left-hand turn when the man came through the intersection, hitting him on the driver's side. As the car pushed its way through, he saw the students and tried yelling for them to move, but he said the words just wouldn't come out. DeShong says he saw the girl being rolled under the car several times, with the accelerator revving the whole time. The car also hit a home, but it didn't cause any major damage. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but it's not clear if any charges will come out of it. More information to follow on NBC 25’s Nightbeat at 11:00. |
